A boat with
250 migrants sank off the Libyan shores according to the Libyan navy,
trying to reach European shores. Only 26 have been rescued. Serious
concerns for the rest who may have been drowned.
According to
a Libyan navy representative, many bodies are floating in the sea.
The accoutrements of the Libyan navy for rescue missions are quite
limited, as he said.
The new
tragedy occurred close to the town Tajura, east of the capital
Tripoli. Most of the migrants came from African countries.

“Migrants
have been streaming out of north Africa - mostly lawless Libya - in
rickety boats in rising numbers for years, with many heading for
Italy. This year more than 100,000 have reached Italian shores, the
Italian government said this week.”
“Human
traffickers have exploited the political chaos and lack of security
that has blighted Libya since Moamar Gaddafi was toppled in an
uprising in 2011. [...] Libya's coastguard mainly exists on paper and
relies on fishing boats and tugs borrowed from the oil ministry.”
These
terrible incidents became a routine in Mediterranean, as people try
to escape from war zones, poverty and diseases. EU appears to be
unwilling and unable to find a solution to this problem, having
already retreated from the humanitarian principles that is supposedly
serves.
